History
APPNIA was initially named APMB (Asosiasi Produsen Makanan Bayi) and established on June 10 ,1992 as a joint initiative of Directorate General of Nutrition and Pharmacy, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Woman Affairs.
It was then renamed to APPNIA on August 9, 2011, driven by the fact that there has been continuous development in food science and technology.
Program
In line with the vision and the mission of association, our main objective is to strengthen the network among related agencies to increase the national nutritional status, especially for mother and child.
Our strategic targets are:
- Strengthened the APPNIA organization and structure in order to achieve the association credibility and dynamism.
- Committed to actively participate in the integrated program in order to succeed the exclusive breast-feeding program by complying with international code of marketing of breast-milk substitutes and existing government regulation with carry out the internal monitoring.
- Committed to produce and/or provide nutritious products for mother and child which are comply with international and national standard.
- Committed to assist government to overcome malnutrition problem among mother and child.
In order to achieve the targets, we formulate the strategic programs as well as the action plans as follow:
1. Strengthening organization
Courtesy Call We actively develops good networking with the government and other stakeholders by holding courtesy call with Ministry of Health, Industry, BPOM, as well as the professional organization such as IDAI, IBI, PERSAGI, PERGIZI PANGAN, POGI, PATPI, etc.
MoU with Professional organization We have signed an MoU with IBI to hold training on Lactation Management. The MoU was signed on January 28, 2013 by IBI former chairwoman the late Dr. Harni Kusno and APPNIA chairman Stephen King.
Support Education and Scientific Event We supported IDAI in PIT IKA (Annual Scientific Meeting of Children’s Health Science) that was held by IDAI on October 7 - 9, 2013 in Solo, Indonesia.
Involved in Government Regulation Formulation We actively involved in formulation of government regulations to provide industries inputs.
2. Supporting on exclusive breastfeeding implementation
Internal Monitoring We conduct an ongoing internal monitoring for the implementation of WHO Code and national regulation (Government Regulation No. 33 year 2012 and Health Ministerial Decree No. 39 year 2013) on marketing of infant formula.
Socialization on Good Retailer Practices Together with APRINDO (Asosiasi Peritel Indonesia - Association of Indonesian Retailer) and BPOM (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan - The National Agency of Drug and Food Control), we conducted socialization on Good Retailer Practices (GRP) in implementing WHO Code. The socialization was held on July 24, 2012 in Borobudur Hotel to create awareness of retailers and to minimize violations at retailer level.
3. Product Improvement on Quality, Nutrition, and Food Safety
Development of Product Standard Together with PERSAGI, we support government (Ministry of Health) in developing GUM 1-3 Standard. Next action to be taken is to develop GUM 4-9 standard.
Seminars on Quality, Nutrition, and Food Safety We are planning to collaborate with ISDI (International Special Dietary Food Industries) to hold seminars concerning emerging knowledge on nutrient, non-nutrient, and food safety issue to improve members’ product quality.
4. Alleviation on Nutritional Problem of Mothers and Children
Cooperation with the Government and other stakeholder on decreasing malnutrition
